Jeff Thompson on Fox News blames video games for shooting |

The unofficial responses are numerous, and presumably affective, but the official responses are the important ones. EA responded politely to Fox News, pointing out their mistakes and asking for an apology. They also pointed out how they are not surprise, and they expect TV to continue striking out at their biggest competition, video games. For more on there response, continue reading here.
As for Jeff Thompson’s interview, the head of the Entertainment Consumers Association, Hal Halpin, decided to take this one himself. His statement was also polite, but calls Thompson’s statements “vile.” |

Fox News Loves to Trash Video Games |

Fox News continually attacks video games. Not too long ago, they attacked the game Mass Effect. They reported many lies about the game, including that it shows full nudity and that you can control sexual acts. None of the journalist had even played the game before, not even the psychiatrist who was the “expert” testifying against the game. She was only trying to promote her new book. After gamers trashed her book on Amazon, she apologized and took back everything she said. To the right are several videos clips. The first is the original news clip. Note the bias of the anchors, and how game expert Jeff is cut off despite being polite and respectful the entire show. The second clip is a video response that was posted on YouTube. It is much longer, but it refutes many of the points, and corrects the lies. The third clip is a short, in-game response, which I added just because it is humorous and makes me smile. Fox News’ attack on video games did not stop there. They also did an interview with Jack Thompson, who blames Counter Strike for the shooting at NIU. At least Fox is less blatantly biased towards games in this interview, but I think Thompson throws enough blame for everyone. View his interview in the video clip below. |
